Operations Manager CADC (Victoria; Penticton, Canada)

The National Research Council (NRC) is seeking an Operations Manager for the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC) at the Herzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Centre (HAA). The Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the CADC’s operations, managing the team, and ensuring the successful delivery of CADC services. The role involves efficient team management, workflow prioritization, client service policies implementation, and collaboration with cloud infrastructure providers. The CADC is growing, and the Operations Manager will play a key role in scaling the team and services to meet expanding needs, especially in support of Canada’s contribution to the SKA Telescope project.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree (or greater) in Astronomy or an astronomy-related field may also be considered.
  • Diploma in Computer Technology or equivalent from a Technical Institute with relevant experience may be considered as an equivalent.

Required Experience:

  • Recent and significant experience administering Linux systems and software.
  • Recent and significant experience managing operational or development projects using agile methodologies.
  • Recent and significant experience working as a collaborative member of an operations or devops team.
  • Recent and significant experience acting as a Scrum Master or in a similar role.
  • Recent and significant experience leading IT projects within assigned resources and time frames in an operational environment.

Skills:

  • Ability to manage a technical team.
  • Expertise in managing services in Kubernetes using GitOps practices and tools.
  • Knowledge of Linux administration and automation tools for configuration management and service/application deployment (e.g., Puppet, Ansible, etc.).
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and demonstrated capacity as a Scrum Lead.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate technical teams to achieve goals efficiently and effectively.

Salary Package:
From $118,246 to $142,767 per annum.
